Pembuatan Biochar dari Cangkang Pinang sebagai Adsorben Logam Kadmium (Cd)

Pencemaran logam berat, khususnya kadmium (Cd), merupakan masalah lingkungan yang serius karena bersifat toksik, persisten, dan dapat terakumulasi dalam rantai makanan. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi kemampuan biochar cangkang pinang (Areca catechu L.) sebagai adsorben ion Cd²⁺ serta menentukan kondisi optimum adsorpsi menggunakan metode Taguchi. Biochar dibuat melalui proses pirolisis dan digunakan untuk mengadsorpsi Cd dengan variasi massa biochar, pH larutan, dan konsentrasi awal Cd. Metode Taguchi diterapkan untuk menganalisis pengaruh parameter dan menentukan kondisi optimum berdasarkan rasio Signal-to-Noise (S/N). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa biochar cangkang pinang mampu mengadsorpsi Cd secara efektif dengan efisiensi adsorpsi maksimum sebesar 96,98% dan kapasitas adsorpsi 11,64 mg/g pada pH 3, massa biochar 0,25 g, dan konsentrasi awal Cd 100 ppm. Optimasi Taguchi menghasilkan kondisi terbaik pada massa biochar 1,00 g, pH 4, dan konsentrasi awal 50 ppm. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa biochar cangkang pinang berpotensi sebagai adsorben ramah lingkungan untuk pengolahan limbah yang mengandung Cd.
